Niyyah (Intention)
نِيَّةُ أَدَاءِ الْخَتْمِ ابْتِغَاءَ رِضْوَانِ اللهِ تَعَالَى
Niyyatu adāʾi l-khatmi ibtighāʾa riḍwāni-Llāhi taʿālā
The intention to perform the Khatm seeking the pleasure of Allah, Exalted is He.
Dhikr · Weekly Gathering
In the Naqshbandiyyah Order the weekly congregational dhikr, known as Khatm ul-Khwājagān, is an important principle which the murīd must not leave. It is performed sitting with the Shaykh in congregation, once a week, preferably on Thursday night or Friday, two hours before sunset.
نِيَّةُ أَدَاءِ الْخَتْمِ ابْتِغَاءَ رِضْوَانِ اللهِ تَعَالَى
Niyyatu adāʾi l-khatmi ibtighāʾa riḍwāni-Llāhi taʿālā

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إلَّا الله وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
Ashhadu an lā ilāha illa-Llāh, wa ashhadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhū wa Rasūluh
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muḥammad ﷺ is His servant and Messenger.
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ
Astaghfiru-Llāh
I seek forgiveness from Allah.
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ الَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ، إِنَّهُ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ. يَا مُسَبِّبَ الأَسْبَابِ، يَا مُفَتِّحَ الأَبْوَابِ، يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ وَالأَبْصَارِ، يَا دَلِيلَ الْمُتَحَيِّرِينَ، يَا غِيَاثَ الْمُسْتَغِيثِينَ، يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ، يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالإِكْرَامِ، وَأُفَوِّضُ أَمْرِي إِلَى اللهِ، إِنَّ اللهَ بَصِيرٌ بِالْعِبَادِ
Astaghfiru-Llāha l-ʿAẓīma lladhī lā ilāha illā Huwa l-Ḥayyu l-Qayyūm wa atūbu ilayh. InnaHu Huwa t-Tawwābu r-Raḥīm. Yā Musabbiba l-asbāb. Yā Mufattiḥa l-abwāb. Yā Muqalliba l-qulūbi wa l-abṣār. Yā Dalīla l-mutaḥayyirīn. Yā Ghiyātha l-mustaghīthīn. Yā Ḥayyu, Yā Qayyūm. Yā Dhā l-Jalāli wa l-Ikrām. Wa ufawwiḍu amrī ila-Llāh. Inna-Llāha Baṣīrun bi-l-ʿibād.
I ask forgiveness of Allah Almighty, other than whom there is no god, the Living, the Self-Subsisting, and I turn to Him in repentance. Verily He is the Acceptor of Repentance, the All-Compassionate. O Originator of causes! O Opener of doors! O Turner of hearts and eyes! O Guide of the perplexed! O Succour of those who seek Your aid! O Living! O Self-Subsisting! O Possessor of Majesty and Bounty! I entrust my affair unto Allah. Truly Allah is aware of His servants.
رَابِطَة شَرِيفَة
Direct your heart to the heart of your Shaykh.
بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ ﴿١﴾ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّـهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ﴿٢﴾ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ ﴿٣﴾ مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ ﴿٤﴾ إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ ﴿٥﴾ اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ ﴿٦﴾ صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ ﴿٧﴾
Bismillāhir Raḥmānir Raḥīm. Alḥamdu lillāhi Rabbil ʿālamīn. Ar-Raḥmānir Raḥīm. Māliki yawmid dīn. Iyyāka naʿbudu wa iyyāka nastaʿīn. Ihdinaṣ ṣirāṭal mustaqīm. Ṣirāṭal ladhīna anʿamta ʿalayhim, ghayril maghḍūbi ʿalayhim walaḍ ḍāllīn.
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds… Guide us to the Straight Path, the path of those upon whom You have bestowed favour, not of those who have earned wrath, nor of those who go astray.
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَسَلِّم
Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammadin wa sallim
O Allah, send peace and blessings upon Muḥammad ﷺ and upon the family of Muḥammad ﷺ.
بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ. أَلَمْ نَشْرَحْ لَكَ صَدْرَكَ ﴿١﴾ وَوَضَعْنَا عَنكَ وِزْرَكَ ﴿٢﴾ الَّذِي أَنقَضَ ظَهْرَكَ ﴿٣﴾ وَرَفَعْنَا لَكَ ذِكْرَكَ ﴿٤﴾ فَإِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ﴿٥﴾ إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا ﴿٦﴾ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتَ فَانصَبْ ﴿٧﴾ وَإِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَارْغَبْ ﴿٨﴾
Alam nashraḥ laka ṣadrak. Wa waḍaʿnā ʿanka wizrak. Alladhī anqaḍa ẓahrak. Wa rafaʿnā laka dhikrak. Fa inna maʿal ʿusri yusrā. Inna maʿal ʿusri yusrā. Fa idhā faraghta fanṣab. Wa ilā rabbika farghab.
Did We not expand for you your chest, and remove from you your burden which weighed upon your back, and raise high your remembrance? For indeed, with hardship comes ease. Indeed, with hardship comes ease. So when you are free, stand up in worship, and to your Lord turn all your longing.
بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ. قُلْ هُوَ اللَّـهُ أَحَدٌ ﴿١﴾ اللَّـهُ الصَّمَدُ ﴿٢﴾ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ ﴿٣﴾ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ ﴿٤﴾
Qul Huwa-Llāhu Aḥad. Allāhuṣ Ṣamad. Lam yalid wa lam yūlad. Wa lam yakun lahu kufuwan Aḥad.
Say, “He is Allah, who is One. Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born. Nor is there to Him any equivalent.”
Recited again seven times.
صَلِّ يَا رَبِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى جَمِيْعِ الأَنْبِيآءِ وَالْمُرْسَلِيْنَ وَآلِ كُلٍّ أَجْمَعِيْنَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ
Ṣalli yā Rabbī wa sallim ʿalā jamīʿi l-anbiyāʾi wal-mursalīn, wa āli kullin ajmaʿīn, wa l-ḥamdu lillāhi Rabbi l-ʿālamīn.
Blessings, O my Lord, and peace be upon all the prophets and emissaries, and on the family of every one of them. Praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
أَعُوذُ بِاللهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ، بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ. رَبِّ قَدْ آتَيْتَنِي مِنَ الْمُلْكِ وَعَلَّمْتَنِي مِنْ تَأْوِيلِ الأَحَادِيثِ، فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ، أَنْتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ، تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ. آمَنَّا بِاللهِ، صَدَقَ اللهُ الْعَظِيم
Rabbi qad ātaytanī mina l-mulki wa ʿallamtanī min taʾwīli l-aḥādīth. Fāṭira s-samāwāti wa l-arḍ. Anta Waliyyī fi d-dunyā wa l-ākhirah. Tawaffanī musliman wa alḥiqnī bi-ṣ-ṣāliḥīn. Āmannā bi-Llāh, ṣadaqa-Llāhu l-ʿAẓīm.
O my Lord! You have given me something of dominion and taught me the interpretation of events. Creator of the heavens and the earth, You are my Protector in this world and the next. Make me die submissive to You, and join me to the righteous. We believe in Allah, the Sublime, who has stated the Truth.
سُبْحَانَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ الْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ وَسَلَامٌ عَلَى الْمُرْسَلِينَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ
Subḥāna Rabbika, Rabbi l-ʿIzzati ʿammā yaṣifūn wa salāmun ʿala l-mursalīn wa l-ḥamdu li-Llāhi Rabbi l-ʿālamīn.
Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Power, above what they ascribe to Him; and peace be upon the emissaries; and praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
إِلَى شَرَفِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَآلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ الْكِرَامِ، وَإِلَى أَرْوَاحِ الأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالْمُرْسَلِينَ وَخُدَمَاءِ شَرَائِعِهِمْ، وَإِلَى الأَئِمَّةِ الأَرْبَعَةِ، وَإِلَى مَشَايِخِنَا فِي الطَّرِيقَةِ النَّقْشْبَنْدِيَّةِ الْعَلِيَّةِ، خَاصَّةً إِلَى أَهْلِ الْخْوَاجَكَان، الْفَاتِحَة
Ilā sharafi n-Nabiyyi ﷺ wa ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi l-kirām, wa ilā arwāḥi l-anbiyāʾi wa l-mursalīn, wa khudamāʾi sharāʾiʿihim, wa ilā l-aʾimmati l-arbaʿa, wa ilā mashāyikhinā fī ṭarīqati n-Naqshbandiyyati l-ʿAliyah, khāṣṣatan ilā ahli l-Khwājagān. Al-Fātiḥah.
Honour be to the Prophet ﷺ, his family and his noble Companions, and to the spirits of the prophets and emissaries and those who served their laws, and to the four Imāms, and to our Shaykhs in the exalted Naqshbandī Order, especially to the family of the Khwājagān. Al-Fātiḥah.
فَاعْلَمْ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا الله
Faʿlam annahu lā ilāha illa-Llāh
Know that there is no god but Allah.

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ الله
Lā ilāha illa-Llāh, Muḥammadur Rasūlu-Llāh
There is no god but Allah, and Muḥammad ﷺ is the Messenger of Allah.
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ الْعَظِيمَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ، تَوْبَةَ عَبْدٍ ظَالِمٍ لِنَفْسِهِ لَا يَمْلِكُ لِنَفْسِهِ مَوْتًا وَلَا حَيَاةً وَلَا نُشُورًا
Astaghfiru-Llāha l-ʿAẓīma wa atūbu ilayh. Tawbata ʿabdin ẓālimin li-nafsihi, lā yamliku li-nafsihi mawtan wa lā ḥayātan wa lā nushūrā.
I seek forgiveness of Allah, the Most Great, and I turn to Him in repentance — the repentance of a servant who has wronged himself, who has power over neither his death, nor his life, nor his resurrection.
أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوب
Alā bi-dhikri-Llāhi taṭmaʾinnu l-qulūb
Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest. (13:28)
The Imām reads Ḥasbuna-Llāh between each round.
حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ، نِعْمَ الْمَوْلَى وَنِعْمَ النَّصِيرُ. لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلْعَظِيم
Ḥasbuna-Llāhu wa niʿma l-wakīl; niʿma l-mawlā wa niʿma n-naṣīr. Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāhi l-ʿAliyyi l-ʿAẓīm.
Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs; the Excellent Protector and the Excellent Helper. There is no power nor strength except by Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.

Yā Muʿīn · Yā Wadūd · Yā Raḥmān · Yā Raḥīm · Yā Ḥannān · Yā Mannān · Yā Dayyān · Yā Subḥān · Yā Sulṭān · Yā Amān · Yā Allāh
O Helper · O Most Loving · O Most Beneficent · O Most Merciful · O Compassionate One · O Bountiful One · O Recompenser · O Glory · O King · O Safety · O God — each said three times followed by “Yā Allāh”.
حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ، نِعْمَ الْمَوْلَى وَنِعْمَ النَّصِيرُ. لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلْعَظِيم

إِنَّ اللهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ، يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
Inna-Llāha wa malāʾikatahu yuṣallūna ʿala n-Nabiyy, yā ayyuhā lladhīna āmanū ṣallū ʿalayhi wa sallimū taslīmā.
Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings upon him and salute him with all respect. (33:56)
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَسَلِّم

صَلِّ يَا رَبِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى جَمِيْعِ الأَنْبِيآءِ وَالْمُرْسَلِيْنَ وَآلِ كُلٍّ أَجْمَعِيْنَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ. عَلَى أَشْرَفِ الْعَالَمِيْنَ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّلَوَاتُ ﷺ عَلَى أَفْضَلِ الْعَالَمِيْنَ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّلَوَاتُ ﷺ عَلَى أَكْمَلِ الْعَالَمِيْنَ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّلَوَاتُ ﷺ
Ṣalli yā Rabbī wa sallim ʿalā jamīʿi l-anbiyāʾi wal-mursalīn, wa āli kullin ajmaʿīn, wa l-ḥamdu lillāhi Rabbi l-ʿālamīn. ʿAlā ashrafi l-ʿālamīna Sayyidinā Muḥammadini ṣ-ṣalawāt ﷺ. ʿAlā afḍali l-ʿālamīna Sayyidinā Muḥammadini ṣ-ṣalawāt ﷺ. ʿAlā akmali l-ʿālamīna Sayyidinā Muḥammadini ṣ-ṣalawāt ﷺ.
Blessings, O my Lord, and peace be upon all the prophets and emissaries and on the family of every one of them; praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. Upon the most noble of creatures, our Master Muḥammad, be blessings ﷺ. Upon the most preferred of creatures, our Master Muḥammad, be blessings ﷺ. Upon the most perfect of creatures, our Master Muḥammad, be blessings ﷺ.
إِلَى حَضْرَةِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَآلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ، وَإِلَى أَرْوَاحِ سَائِرِ الأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالْمُرْسَلِينَ وَخُدَمَاءِ شَرَائِعِهِمْ، وَإِلَى أَرْوَاحِ مَشَايِخِنَا فِي الطَّرِيقَةِ النَّقْشْبَنْدِيَّةِ الْعَلِيَّةِ، خَاصَّةً إِلَى إِمَامِ الطَّرِيقَةِ وَغَوْثِ الْخَلِيقَةِ شَاه بَهَاءُ الدِّينِ نَقْشْبَنْد مُحَمَّدٍ الأُوَيْسِيِّ الْبُخَارِي، وَإِلَى مَوْلانَا سُلْطَانِ الأَوْلِيَاءِ الشَّيْخِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْفَائِزِ الدَّاغَسْتَانِي، وَأُسْتَاذِنَا عَبْدِ الْخَالِقِ الْغُجْدَوَانِي، وَإِلَى أُسْتَاذِنَا وَأُسْتَاذِ أُسْتَاذِنَا وَالصِّدِّيقِيُّون، الْفَاتِحَة
Ilā Ḥaḍrati n-Nabiyyi ﷺ wa ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi l-kirām, wa ilā arwāḥi sāʾiri l-anbiyāʾi wa l-mursalīn wa khudamāʾi sharāʾiʿihim, wa ilā arwāḥi mashāyikhinā fī ṭarīqati n-Naqshbandiyyati l-ʿAliyah, khāṣṣatan ilā rūḥi Imāmi ṭ-ṭarīqah wa Ghawthi l-khalīqah Shāh Bahāʾuddīn Naqshband Muḥammadini l-Uwaysiyyi l-Bukhārī, wa ilā Mawlānā Sulṭāni l-Awliyāʾ Shaykh ʿAbdi-Llāhi l-Fāʾizi d-Dāghistānī wa ustādhinā ʿAbdil Khāliqi l-Ghujduwānī, wa ilā ustādhinā wa ustādhi ustādhinā wa ṣ-Ṣiddīqiyyūn. Al-Fātiḥah.
To the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, his family and his Companions, and to the spirits of all the prophets and emissaries and those who served their laws, and to the four Imāms, and to our Shaykhs in the exalted Naqshbandī Order, particularly the Imām of the Order, the Succour of Creation, Shāh Bahāʾuddīn Naqshband Muḥammad al-Uwaysī al-Bukhārī, and to our Master Sulṭān al-Awliyāʾ Shaykh ʿAbdullāh al-Fāʾiz ad-Dāghistānī, and our teacher ʿAbdul Khāliq al-Ghujduwānī, and to our master and the master of our master and the Righteous. Al-Fātiḥah.
